Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Free Ecological Menstrual Products
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The University of Ottawa has decided to tackle two issues in one program. Recently it launched a project to introduce free menstrual products on campus. The menstrual products (tampons and pads) are available through dispensers in washrooms at no cost. The machines are stocked with Aunt Flow menstrual products which are made with 100% cotton with no synthetic chemicals or dyes. The packaging is also made of paper or cardboard which makes them completely recyclable. These products are healthier for menstruators and do not cost them any extra money (no gender based tax).
