A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Every year the Office of Campus Sustainability engages in various Welcome week programs to raise the profile of the office, make the events more sustainable, and increase understanding about sustainability.
The Office participates in the planning sessions for Welcome Week and offers advice to organizing groups about how to reduce their environmental footprint and be more inclusive. For example, the Office works with the Student Union to help minimize the amount of waste in Frosh Kits and promote reusable products.
The Office organize a giant Free Store event, where students arriving on campus can take free reused items instead of buying new items for their new rooms. The Office also helps coordinate and provide volunteers for the collection of goods from students moving out during the same week to reduce waste sent to landfill.
The Office also provides sustainability tours for various groups on campus. The Institute of the Environment Master's in Environmental Sustainability Program and the Faculty of Arts are examples of groups that come back every year to have sustainability tours of the campus.
