A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
Their mission is to provide leadership in the creation, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures and practices on diversity, inclusion, equity, accessibility and the prevention of harassment and discrimination for the entire university community – students, faculty, employees and visitors.
This mission is carried out by the Director of Gender and Equity, a Diversity and Inclusion Specialist, along with the Web Accessibility Compliance Coordinator and the Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Officer. Additionally, some faculties have their own specific policies and staff positions that are dedicated to equity and inclusion within their departments. For example, the uOttawa Faculty of Medicine has a 'Policy for an Equity, Diversity and Gender Issues Committee (EDG)' in each department and research institute (http://www.med.uottawa.ca/edg/eng/policy_gic.html).
