The purpose of the SUDCOM is to provide advice and insight to the University of Ottawa’s Administrative Committee on best practices pertaining to campus sustainability. Recently, the terms of reference for the committee were redifined.
The new Campus Sustainability Committee is responsible for:
1. Advising the University of Ottawa’s Administration Committee on matters related to creating a more sustainable campus.
2. Working with Faculties and Service departments to create individual sustainability plans
Members of each committee, including affiliations and role (e.g. staff, student, or faculty):
Three staff representatives - selected by the VP Resource
Three faculty representatives - selected by the VP academic and VP Research
Two student representatives - selected by the undergraduate and graduate student association
One external representative - selected by the committee

The Office of Campus Sustainability was created in 2006 and is operated under the University of Ottawa's Facilities team in order to integrate sustainability actions into the daily operations of the campus and its users.
The Student Federation of the University of Ottawa also has a sustainability centre which coordinates student projects and develops programs in the interest of student community.

The Office of Campus Sustainability recently completed work on an official Campus Sustainability Policy which aims to engage the University of Ottawa community in sustainable practices and to promote sustainability practices amongst the students, staff and faculty members on campus and the wider community, all in accordance with the University’s commitments as a signatory to the Talloires Declaration, the Halifax Declaration, the ‘Ontario Universities Committed to a Greener World’ pledge, and its obligations under domestic law.
This initiative will give enhanced powers to the Sustainable Development Committee to work on academic issues, as well as coordinate operational efforts across the entirety of the campus.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Undertake the Campus Sustainability Assessments
2. Develop an interactive website for campus sustainability
3. Integrate the University of Ottawa to existing sustainability networks
4. Initiate a communication strategy focused on increasing awareness on and off campus of ongoing sustainable initiatives.
5. Recommend and participate in waste reduction, recycling, composting, energy and water management strategies, TDM initiatives, space management issues on campus, and in the design or renovation of campus facilities to ensure the inclusion of sustainability features.
6. Represent the University on various environmental committees or groups within the capital region, as required.
7. Identify, and where appropriate, apply for funding from outside agencies for specific capital projects and retrofits.
8. Create an Annual Campus Sustainability Report to highlight the activities of the coordinator, the program as well as the University, and comment on possible areas for improvement and opportunities to move forward.
