Clean Innovation Research Fund (CIRF)
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In April 2016 the CIRF was formed as part of the University's response regarding divesting from fossil fuels. The fund is dedicated to funding research aimed at finding 'clean' solutions to the problems most heavily playing a role in Climate Change. By 2020 $1.5 million will have been channeled through the Clean Innovation Research Fund. Since its inception, CIRF has secured federal grants for solar energy and water treatment, Launch three new Canada Research Chairs: Environment, Society and Policy, Climate and Energy Policy and Engineered Advanced Materials and Devices, obtained three new Fulbright Chairs for visiting professors, all dedicated to research on the environment and climate change, and many more initiatives!
