The Council of Ontario Universities releases an annual report titled: "Ontario's Going Greener" which identifies successful sustainability initiatives/case studies across Ontario. The University of Ottawa submitted a study on its Furniture Reuse Program which was officially recognized as an innovative practice.

The University of Ottawa has mentored several universities and student unions about how to start up and maintain a Free Store (retail location dedicated to selling or redistributing items recovered from residence move-outs and donations) on their campus.
Our recycling and waste management has worked with several institutions, (including the University of Victoria in British Columbia, the University of Tennessee, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong) to help coach them through the creation of a similar program, how to management their volunteers, and how we keep interest going in the program. Although every institution is different, these relationships can sometimes last months at a time.
