A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

Through the Centre for organizational development and learning (CODL), the University offers a new employee orientation program, which includes mandatory workshops, an e-guide as well as a campus visit. Sustainable development is one of the University’s services being presented.

The orientation covers the main aspects of work life on campus: overview of the University’s history and functioning, employee benefits and working conditions, useful tools and services. Mandatory workshops include: University at a Glance, Performance Appraisal, Enhancing the University Experience and Accessibility training. Interaction management is mandatory for Intermediate and senior management.

New employee orientation is designed to meet the various needs of new employees and on several fronts though its on-boarding process:
1. New employees, even before their first day of work, can access the e-guide for new employees, covering issues such as benefits but also places to park and eat.
2. Hiring managers have access to the guide “New Staff Member Orientation”, developed by HR, that helps them better welcome and support new employees even before they arrive for their first day of work
3. Once employees arrive on campus to being their new jobs, they are required to participate in a half day orientation session entitled “University at a Glance”. Topics covered go beyond what is covered on the on-line guide.

The goals of this three-step on-boarding process are to properly meet the needs of new employees, thus also enhancing the likelihood of greater employee satisfaction and retention, which creates a sustainable workforce.
