Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
JFI Environmental Justice Fellows

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
As part of the Just Futures Institute, a multi-million dollar Mellon Foundation-funded grant to support the development of just climate futures in the Pacific Northwest, the JFI EJ Fellows project connects students with impacted communities to develop an environmental justice project that directly serves that community. Students - both graduate and undergraduate - receive financial support and training over the course of a year, culminating in a community project that leverages the resources of the University to serve communities. Students receive a year-long leadership training through the Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, and they receive specific guidance and teaching on principles and foundations of Environmental Justice through the Student Sustainability Center. The fellowship provides funds for the student-leader, the community organization, and a faculty advisor, should the student be working with one. Projects have included indigenous seed-saving; support for houseless communities; collected story-telling from impacted communities in West Eugene; a youth leadership program to develop high school students' climate leadership; and more.
