The Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities Network (EPIC)
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
EPIC is a new program that builds on the success of the Sustainable Cities Initiative (SCI). EPIC is an annual three-day conference that trains faculty and community leaders from institutions and cities around the world to replicate the SCI model. The conference is now in its 5th year of operation and approximately 60 individuals academics, professionals and officials representing about 20 institutions come from all across the US and abroad each year. A collaborative group plans the annual conference, and the 2017 event is taking place in San Diego, CA, with a reported 60 participants. Many previous participants who have launched programs modeled after SCI come back to the conference to share their own adaptations of the basic framework.
The program has received multiple awards for this innovation, including the 2015 Ashoka U-Cordes Innovation Award, which recognizes top educational approaches in social entrepreneurship within higher education.
