Yes

A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:

According to NextStep Recycling, the company that collects UO's e-waste, they have recycled hundreds of tons of e-waste responsibly. They only send their waste to Northwest vendors, never oversees.

They also offer job and social skill trainings to people in the community, regardless of what their skills and ability levels are, and they work closely with several local job placement services. For more information, visit: http://www.nextsteprecycling.org/about

A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for institution-generated materials:

All workable UO ewaste is first offered to campus for business use. Then the unneeded surplus is sold or donated. 100 percent of UO's non-workable ewaste and about 90% of our workable ewaste is donated to a local recycling center “NextStep Recycling”, which is monitored by the State of Oregon.

About 5% of our workable ewaste is sold to the public and we donate about 5% of our workable ewaste to public non-profits. We retain our Donation and Bill of Sale forms for the required retention period of 4 years.

A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for student-generated materials :

NextStep Recycling comes on campus and we have events from time to time where they will provide a collection service for these items. For instance, in June 2010 NextStep Recycling had an event to collect electronics from students moving out of the dooms.
