Questions which address the underlying sustainability culture present in our student population are included in our annual Sustainability Literacy Assessment, which is delivered to our First Year Students. Many questions, including Q9, are designed to gauge student values related to climate, energy, plant-based eating, and other pillars of sustainability behavior.

A representative sample was achieved by sending the literacy assessment digitally to all first year students through Qualtrics. This will be an element of our first year curriculum so all First Year students will be expected to complete each year.

The majority of our First Year Students are arriving at Notre Dame with a basic understanding of sustainability and the ability to contribute positively to sustainability culture over time. That said, there is always room to grow this. We will use the results to shape our peer-to-peer education and curricular/co-curricular options particularly for underclassmen with the hope of further bolstering this culture.
