A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :

The University of Notre Dame has developed campus-wide course attributes in order to better track courses that actively contribute to sustainability. These courses are reviewed on a semester basis in order to earn the respective course attributes. Students then utilize these attributes when searching for applicable courses. Working with the University Registrar, an export of all course offerings that earned these course attributes was provided.

Those attributes include:
Sus 1 - Design: Course that directly address sustainable design, including engineering, architecture, and other solutions to environmental problems.
Sus 2 - Impacts: Courses which center on impact assessment, including the science of environmental problems and historical, narrative, and sociological descriptions of those impacts.
Sus 3 - Social Institutions: Courses centered on social institutions that affect environmental problems and sustainable solutions to those problems, including business and economics, law, politics, sociology, and religion.
Sus 4 - Individual Behavior & Values: Individual behavior and values that affect environmental problems and sustainable solutions to those problems, including psychology, ethics, and religious values.
ENST - Energy Studies: Technical and non-technical courses which prepare students for the complexities of the world's energy challenges.
RSES - Resiliency and Sustainability of Engineering Systems: Technical and non-technical courses that address the specific impact of design decisions in the pursuit of sustainable and resilient global development.
