Initial members of the Green Ambassador program were appointed by the Office of Sustainability. Individuals were selected for their enthusiasm for sustainable practices and ability to impact change on campus. New potential members may contact the Office of Sustainability to become a member of the group.
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive (1st program):
The Green Ambassadors Program serves the University of Notre Dame by creating and empowering a network of staff interested in implementing sustainable practices in their offices or departments on campus. Green Ambassadors are individuals who are taking the initiative within their own office by organizing and informing their colleagues of sustainable opportunities within a work environment.
The mission of the Green Ambassadors Program is to begin integrating sustainable concepts and practices into offices at a campus-wide level. The Green Ambassadors Program works to bring together staff members from across campus to serve as sustainable agents for change within their own offices or departments. Green Ambassadors also serve as a point of contact between their office and the Office of Sustainability. The Green Ambassador Program meets a couple of times per semester and covers different sustainable topics that need to be addressed on campus.
A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (1st program):
The Office of Sustainability provides support to the Green Ambassador Program by way of online resources, brown bag lunches, and a discussion board monitored by a member of the office. The Office of Sustainability staff works with the ambassadors to gain both feedback and suggestions for how to better foster communication with other offices on campus. The program will also work to connect staff with sustainability resources on campus and also find ways to engage a larger group of faculty and staff.
