The charter or mission statement of the committee or a brief description of the committee's purview and activities :

The Energy and Environmental Issues Committee provides broad-based academic and operational guidance and support around the University of Notre Dame’s sustainability initiatives. The committee is comprised of administrators, faculty, staff and students representing a diverse group of campus stakeholders.

Within the last few years the committee has participated in the following:
•Approved the implementation of new a Green Office Certification program as a means to engage staff in sustainability initiatives.
•Reviewed annual updates of the campus greenhouse gas emissions inventory.
•Reviewed and approved the University Sustainability Strategy.
•Reported on progress in phases 2 and 3 of the Energy Conservation Measures program and the installation of LED lighting across campus.
•Supported the launch of greeNDiscovery, the green labs energy conservation program.
•Participated in the expansion of the campus garden from 45 to XX plots.
•Supported the expansion of the LEV preferred parking program, which has 422 participants up from 184 at last report.
•Assisted in the implementation of dorm electricity meters and new dorm energy dashboard.
•Supported a web based tree tour of campus along with sustainability overlay for the widely used interactive campus map on the nd.edu homepage.
•Supported the roll out of water bottle filling stations in each of the 29 dorms across campus to encourage the use of reusable water bottles.

The Office of Sustainability, integrates sustainability principles across all operational areas of the university and collaborates with relevant sustainability education and research programs to drive outcomes that are aligned with Notre Dame’s mission. The office is charged with enacting significant behavior change in individuals and departments through the implementation of tested sustainability practices.

Lead and direct the University of Notre Dame in meeting the University’s overall sustainability goals and mission, as well as encourage, devise and help implement sustainability initiatives throughout partner departments; advise University leadership on sustainability opportunities; and partner with the greater South Bend and Michiana Community to encourage and develop greater region-wide sustainability.
