Does the institution use xeriscape landscaping techniques, including the selection of drought tolerant plants?:
A brief description of the program or practice:
UNI's xeriscaping is directly tied to the use of native species in the landscaping on campus. The native species that are used on campus are species that evolved in the Midwest climate to be hearty heat and drought tolerant species that can survive both the hot dry portions of Iowa summers, as well as the extreme cold winters.
