A brief description of the child care program, policy, or practice:
The Center is staffed by 12 full-time teachers certified in Early Childhood Education. They are assisted by approximately 70 UNI student staff members. In addition, UNI students from a variety of majors participate in field experiences in the CDC. The UNI CDC provides a nurturing and safe environment to support learning for the families and students of the university. The curriculum is developed around themes of interest to children. The program emphasizes the development of language and social skills in culturally diverse classroom communities.
The CDC serves the children of UNI students, faculty and staff. Children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age are eligible to be enrolled in the 6-classroom center. Up to 20 children daily are enrolled in our After School Program that serve PLS children K-6th grade and surrounding schools. A waiting list is utilized to fill openings as they occur. A registration fee is required upon enrollment.
