A brief description of the snow and ice removal program, policy, or practice:
UNI has implemented a number of policies that have impacted the salt applications on campus. These include:
• Our salt applications have been targeted to high traffic areas
• Application of beat juice extract
• Standardizing walk widths which allow for standardization of snow removal equipment. This makes the snow removal process more efficient and significantly reduces the amount of salt applied.
• There has been a slow removal steps on campus, these are one of the highest need areas for salt.
• A number of areas on campus have installed pervious pavers, which allow snowmelt infiltration and a decrease of ice build up in these areas.
