A brief description of the institution’s program(s) to encourage student research in sustainability:
The Environmental Science Grad Program currently offers six stipends and six tuition scholarships each year, on average. Additionally they provide support for equipment and supply purchases.
Additionally the Environmental Science Program provides funding for hydroscience education (hands on, bridging the gap between physical and life sciences) that has provided support for undergraduate students and supplies, and development of real time monitoring in Dry Run Creek and in groundwater.

A brief description of the institution’s program(s) to encourage faculty research in sustainability:
The UNI Office of Sponsored Programs offers a seed grant program. The purpose of this program is to support research and creative activities at UNI and to enhance the ability of faculty and staff to apply for external funding. All projects that receive this funding are required to lead to external funding proposals within one year of the completion of the seed grant.
