A brief description of the farmers’ market:
Building upon a growing interest in local food production and sustainability at UNBC the “University Farmers’ Market” (UFM) was initiated in February 2011. The UFM aims to holistically promote sustainability by addressing the environmental, economic and social/health issues around food production and facilitating broad cross disciplinary discussions about sustainability among diverse university clusters. This project is a partnership between UNBC students, faculty, staff and community organizations such as the local Farmers’ Market Association. The UFM provides unique opportunities for student involvement, community engagement, teaching and applied research, experiential learning, local economic development and building social systems that support equity and social justice.
