A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive experience(s) offered by the institution:
The university has several sustainability-focused immersive experiences in various departments across campus. The Department of Sociology offers a rigorous "Sustainable Societies" program. As a core focus, Sustainable Societies emphasizes research, teaching, and service with respect to the long term betterment of life for all people. Faculty members conduct theory-driven research in areas such as aging, culture, development, disasters, globalization, health, and inequality in order to offer solutions to the challenges of sustainability.
Additionally, UNT offers a Master's in Sustainable Tourism (MIST) through the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management Program. The MIST program teaches all concepts of sustainability as it relates to the tourism industry. Students spend one year studying at UNT and a second year studying at a partnering university in Costa Rica.
Furthermore, UNT's Department of Philosophy and Religion Studies offers immersive courses emphasizing sustainability through the Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program - a partnership between UNT and the University of Magallenas in Cape Horne, Chile.
