A brief description of the themed semester, year, or first-year experience:
In 2009, as part of the "One Book, One Community" campaign, UNT selected Jeff Goodell's book, Big Coal, as the book of the year. All incoming students received the book and it was incorporated into certain university curriculum. The book discussed issues of sustainability as they relate to energy. Additionally, Goodell was brought to campus as a guest speaker and was featured during UNT's Sustainability Week.
