The master plan includes sustainability as one of its design guidelines stating that "The University is committed to responsible, sustainable development that attains a balance between economy, the environment, and society by meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The goal is to create a balance of personal and environmental health across five broad categories: Nature, Energy, People, Water, and Materials. Innovation is encouraged."
