A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
UNCW's Board of Trustees is an appointed body that includes the Student Government President as voting members. All major policy, development, and academic decisions are made through recommendations of this thirteen-member board to the Board of Governors at the System level. The Staff Senate and Faculty Senate Chairs are not recognized voting members, but the positions are included in all planning conversations and provide quarterly reports and recommendations to BOT. This shared governance is a hallmark of the UNC System, and it is mirrored at the System level in the Board of Governors.
We also have three organizations representing each of the populations on campus: Faculty Senate, Staff Senate, and Student Government Association. These groups meet monthly during the school year. Their members are representative of the populations across campus and are awarded their positions through yearly votes. Each of these groups are represented on the System level.
