Does the institution have a bicycle-sharing program or participate in a local bicycle-sharing program?:
Yes

A brief description of the bicycle sharing program:

UNCW offers 100 7 Speed bicycles for rent and the program is administered by Parking and Transportation and Hawk Wheels Support Office. The bicycles are available on a first come first serve basis and the rates are very affordable. Hawk Wheels Support Office also provides full time staff who aid in personal bicycle maintenance for Students, Faculty and Staff to encourage the use of bicycles. UNCW also offers BIRD Scooter and Bicycle share program where Students, Faculty and Staff can use their UNCW email for a discounted rate to use the shared program. There are approximately 200 shared bicycle and scooters on campus during the year. This program allows for quick trips around campus and helps eliminate driving around campus.

Does the institution participate in a car sharing program?:
No

None

Does the institution offer preferential parking or other incentives for fuel efficient vehicles?:
Yes

A brief description of the incentives for fuel efficient vehicles:

Parking decks on campus provide parking spaces for hybrid or electric vehicles that are located in a more convenient location than the placement of other, more traditional vehicles. Also, more convenient locations are provided for vehicles that are smaller in size, thus are more likely to be more fuel-efficient. This would be an incentive for fuel efficient cars to park at UNCW.

Does the institution have one or more Level 2 or Level 3 electric vehicle recharging stations that are accessible to student and employee commuters?:
Yes

None
A brief description of the electric vehicle recharging stations:

UNCW was awarded $193,219 from a $739,000 total funding from the NC Department of Environmental Quality to install Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations. UNCW will use this money to add six charging ports to campus, brining the tally to eight parking spaces available for EV charging. Two of the spaces will also be ADA-accessible. The Office of Sustainability, Parking and Transportation Services and the Facilities Energy Management Team are collaborating to install the additional charging ports.

Does the institution have incentives or programs to encourage employees to live close to campus?:
No

None

Does the institution have other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting?:
Yes

A brief description of other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting:

UNCW contacts with the City of Wilmington's bus system WAVE to provide 7 routes and 9 busses which Students, Faculty and Staff can use for no charge by showing their One Card. This system encourages the use of the busses to get on and off campus as well as a route that circles the campus on a 20 minute schedule. UNCW also mandates that all undergraduate students who live within a one-mile radius of the university either use the university's bus network, a bicycle or walk to get to campus. Students who use bicycles to get around campus also may use the conveniently located bicycle self-repair stations at Randall Library, Wagner Hall, or Fisher Student Union. UNCW participates in the League of American Bicyclist Bike to Work Week annually.
