A brief description of the institution’s sustainability projects fund:
The mission of The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is to finance research, promote sustainable practices and encourage student leadership, while fostering an attractive, functional, sustainable, and safe campus. The Green Initiative Fund empowers students, faculty, staff, and administration at the University of North Carolina Wilmington to actively participate in the global movement for a sustainable future. As a student-sponsored fund explicitly designated to stimulate sustainability projects at UNCW, The Green Initiative Fund finances projects that represent the student body’s goals and the University’s plans for a sustainable future including, but not limited to, energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation, storm water management, waste reduction, and sustainability research.
A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:
The TGIF mini-grants are on a first-come, first-serve basis. When we receive an application, the review committee made up of one undergraduate student, one grad student, and one faculty/staff will review a redacted version (example attached) and fill out the rubric (also attached). If all three of the committee member score the application with the criteria below, the application is accepted. Otherwise, the committee determines if an email exchange or short meeting is needed to discuss the next steps. Rubric Instructions There is a window at the top of the first screen; please put the application number there. From there, rate the project on each criterion from 0-4. If any applications receive a 1 or 0 in any area, we will allow them to alter the project to fulfill the requirements. Otherwise, your final score will be averaged with the other two judge's final scores. If they receive over 12 points, they will automatically be approved for the grant (pending page two), but if they receive lower than 12, they will need to revise the application to make it stronger. On the second page is a series of yes/no questions. You may want to start on this page. All of the answers in the first column are non-negotiables. If the answer to any question is in the second column, please put your reasoning in the bottom's comments box. The applicants will have the option to review and revise their application to adhere to these criteria. Lastly, don't forget that you do not have to fund the entire project. If you feel parts of the project align with the goals of The Green Initiative Fund, and others do not, you can also write that in the comments.
