Sustainability Peer Educators

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):

The Sustainability Peer Educator program consists of 10 paid peer educator positions. Students are trained twice per year on sustainable initiatives at the university and general knowledge of the field. Students work up to eight hours a week on projects and programs that increase awareness of sustainability, support University sustainability initiatives, and achieve goals outlined in the Sustainability Strategic Plan. Examples of other requirements include creating marketing materials, collaborating with other departments and organizations to implement programs, and serving as a liaison between campus partners. They provide presentations and tours, volunteer events, and outreach initiatives to the campus community.


A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):

The target audience for UNCW's Sustainability Peer Educator program are the students, faculty, and staff of UNCW. Peer educators, if requested by an instructor, can present to the instructor's class to teach their fellow students about what they can do to help promote sustainability on the campus of UNCW. They also provide virtual education through social media in order to reach the student population not on campus. Their outreach initiatives are targeted to every member of the campus community.

Sustainability Interns

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):

Interns and Directed Independent Study students work on a variety of topics dependent on their personal interests. Previous projects include Dub's Grocery Run, a food access program, Seahawk Swap Shop, a university free store to improve accessibility to necessities.
