"---" indicates that no data was submitted for this field

Does the institution's GHG emissions inventory include all Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions?:
Yes

Does the institution's GHG emissions inventory include all Scope 3 GHG emissions from any of the following categories?:
Yes or No
Business travel Yes
Commuting Yes
Purchased goods and services No
Capital goods No
Fuel- and energy-related activities not included in Scope 1 or Scope 2 No
Waste generated in operations Yes

Does the institution's GHG emissions inventory include Scope 3 emissions from other categories?:
Yes

A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:

UNCP’s baseline GHG inventory is fiscal year 2013 (FY2013) and this report also includes FY2014 as performance year. This baseline includes campus-wide emissions during each reporting period, as required by ACUPCC signatories, which includes accounting of the six GHGs covered under the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, and perfluorocarbons and Sulphur hexafluoride.

Development of the baseline GHG emissions inventory follows international consensus GHG accounting protocols developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in conjunction with the Clean Air – Cool Planet Campus Carbon Calculator (CA-CP) (v7.0). The CA-CP is the primary and recommended tool used by institutions participating in the ACUPCC. The organizational boundary of UNCP includes emissions sources that are under its operational control.

Has the GHG emissions inventory been validated internally by personnel who are independent of the GHG accounting and reporting process and/or verified by an independent, external third party?:
Yes

A brief description of the internal and/or external verification process:

GHG emissions inventories are calculated by the Sustainability Office, with data input from several departments and offices across campus in addition to a commuting survey to all campus stuents and employees. The final inventories are then reviewed and endorsed by the campus' Sustainability Council, which includes representation of all campus populations (students, staff, faculty and administrators). Before public release, it is then reviewed by the Chancellor's Cabinet. Once released, inventories are posted on the campus' website and the ACUPCC Reporting website.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions::
Performance Year Baseline Year
Scope 1 GHG emissions from stationary combustion 2,897.80 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 2,947 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Scope 1 GHG emissions from other sources 711 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 547 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Scope 2 GHG emissions from purchased electricity 11,753.60 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 12,046.60 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Scope 2 GHG emissions from other sources 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Figures needed to determine total carbon offsets::
Performance Year Baseline Year
Institution-catalyzed carbon offsets generated 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Carbon sequestration due to land that the institution manages specifically for sequestration 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Carbon storage from on-site composting 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Third-party verified carbon offsets purchased 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

A brief description of the institution-catalyzed carbon offsets program:

Presently, the total capacity of onsite solar PV generation is 4kW, after FY2014.

A brief description of the carbon sequestration program and reporting protocol used:

N/A

A brief description of the composting and carbon storage program:

N/A

A brief description of the purchased carbon offsets, including third party verifier(s) and contract timeframes:

N/A

Figures needed to determine “Weighted Campus Users”::
Performance Year Baseline Year
Number of residential students 1,950 1,802
Number of residential employees 1 1
Number of in-patient hospital beds 0 0
Full-time equivalent enrollment 5,163 5,250
Full-time equivalent of employees 867 882
Full-time equivalent of distance education students 588 583

Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Start Date End Date
Performance Year July 1, 2013 June 30, 2014
Baseline Year July 1, 2012 June 30, 2013

A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:

Baseline GHG emissions inventory was calculated in order to track progress towards reduction goals. This supports the campus' Sustainability Policy, Strategic Sustainability Plan, ACUPCC and Appalachian Energy Summit commitments. FY2013 was selected for the baseline because the Sustainability Office was established in February 2014 and FY2013 data was the most recent available data.

Gross floor area of building space, performance year:
1,730,774 Square feet

Floor area of energy intensive building space, performance year:
Floor Area
Laboratory space 47,035 Square feet
Healthcare space 5,523 Square feet
Other energy intensive space 0 Square feet

Scope 3 GHG emissions, performance year::
Emissions
Business travel 750.10 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Commuting 6,018.60 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Purchased goods and services ---
Capital goods ---
Fuel- and energy-related activities not included in Scope 1 or Scope 2 726.50 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Waste generated in operations 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Other categories (please specify below) 25.30 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

A brief description of the sources included in Scope 3 GHG emissions from "other categories":

Other represents paper consumption (purchases).
The fuel and energy-related activities above represents scope 2 T&D.
Waste generated is a credit as the local landfill converts 100% of methane produced into electricity, but represented as 0, since this database will not allow negative entries; technically the actual amount is (29.8) for the performance year, FY2014.
