Does the institution advocate for public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability at the municipal/local level?:
Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:

One of the responsibilities of the Office of Sustainability is to represent UNCG internally and externally, attending meetings and conferences and serving on committees, as appropriate. Two examples include: serving on UNCG's Peabody Park Conservation Committee and attending the Greensboro Community Sustainability Council (GCSC) meetings. In this regard, UNCG's Sustainability Specialist, Sean MacInnes, participated in meetings organized by the GCSC to facilitate the creation of the City of Greensboro's new Strategic Energy Plan.

In particular, as a representative of UNCG, he advocated for the increased use and prioritization of Historically Underutilized Businesses in the City's construction contracts and for the City to provide training to guide HUBs through the City's contracted services application process, and for the City to incorporate a green building standard for renovations and new construction. Both are reflective of UNCG's policies to design all new construction to USGBC LEED Silver standards and to provide businesses owned by minority person(s) or socially and economically disadvantaged person(s) equal access and opportunity to participate fully in all aspects of the University’s construction and procurement programs.
