A brief description of the assessment(s):
Rankin and Associates, a consulting firm specializing in higher education issues, conducted an assessment of diversity and inclusion at UNCG. The firm conducted fact-finding interviews on campus with groups of minority
and majority faculty, and surveyed minority faculty who had left UNCG in the past 10 years. Recommended actions were then developed for the final report. These data have been used in planning the forthcoming Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
Year the assessment was last administered:
2,008
A brief description of how the results of the assessment(s) are used in shaping policy, programs, and initiatives:
Specific recommendations were formulated and presented for marketing strategies regarding events that focus on diversity appreciation/ training and building a more inclusive community. A rationale and job description were
created for the current new open position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. A sub-group of the Inclusive Community Task Force which worked with the consultant investigated ways to improve the level of inclusiveness of the university. The sub-group determined that the best method was to conduct focus groups representing groups of under-represented members of the campus. As a result, the following panels were conducted in the 2008-09 academic year: Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersecting, Queer, and Questioning (GLBTIQQ) Students, Staff Members, Minority Faculty Members, Minority Students, International Degree Seeking Students, & Male Students.
