The Sustainability Officer is an active member of the Southeastern Campus Sustainability Network, a network that supports the professional development, information sharing, and morale-building among university sustainability professionals in the southeastern U.S.A. The university is a member of Sustain Charlotte, a nonprofit organization that advocates for smart growth solutions to Charlotte’s sustainability challenges. The Sustainability Officer is a member of the UNC System's Sustainability Alliance, which is comprised of the chief sustainability officers from 17 UNC units that meet quarterly to work on joint projects and information-sharing. Since 2012, the university has contributed to the Appalachian Energy Summit initiative that works to continue advancing energy saving initiatives. UNC Charlotte has officers in SRAPPA and NCAPPA who champion sustainability content at those regional and state conferences.

In June 2022, the Sustainability Officer presented at the Appalachian Energy Summit, an energy and sustainability conference for UNC schools, public and private higher education partners in the region, on building an electric vehicle fleet at UNC Charlotte. In October 2022, the Sustainability Officer and Solid Waste Coordinator presented “Optimizing High-Visibility Assets: Outdoor Public Waste Station System Case Study” at GCSHE.
