A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
A compilation of faculty with possible research responsibilities was compiled from departmental websites in 2021-22. These included 1110 individuals with titles including the word “professor” at any rank. The Office of Sustainability reviewed the websites of individual faculty to locate lists or news of publications, grants, and other scholarly activities (e.g. performances) in the 3-year period of 2019-2022. Publications were also checked on faculty pages located on Google Scholar or Researchgate. From this evidence, faculty were designated as active or not active in research during 2019-2022. Descriptions of research activities were compiled for active researchers. Based on the AASHE STARS Sample keywords to help identify sustainability challenges (derived from the Earth Charter and SDG targets), keyword searches were used to highlight potential sustainability research and scholarship. A final review in Summer 2022 identified faculty researchers as either engaged in sustainability research, or not engaged; and subsequently, whether an academic department had at least one employee who conducts sustainability research.
