The university has used an Eco-Reps program for peer-to-peer sustainability education in the residence halls. Sustainability Office Interns were added in 2013 to expand peer-to-peer education and outreach to the entire campus through ongoing certification programs (Green Room, Green Office), events (Sustainability Week, Earth Month, etc.), and student orientation.

Eco-Reps and Sustainability Office interns are recruited for advertised positions primarily through student organizations that work with our office (Charlotte Green Initiative, Earth Club, Garden Club) and recommendations from professors.

Students received training in behavior change, social marketing, and campus sustainability issues at an initial workshop and weekly meetings.
