A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
"The first public institution of higher education in North Carolina, the school opened its doors to students on February 12, 1795. The university offers degrees in over 70 courses of study through fourteen schools and the College of Arts and Sciences.
Large parcels of campus include 740 acres located in downtown Chapel Hill. Carolina North Forest is a 925 acre woodland area for the community, and offers historical and ecological significance. The 900 acre Mason Farm Biological Reserve (MFBR) protects natural areas, supports academic research and public education, and is a place for contemplation and appreciation of the natural world. Other regional satellite areas support operations, research, and recreation activities. "
