A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
The searchable database of all courses taught from Fall 2016 through second summer session 2019 was matched against a list of sustainability keywords. Labs, recitations, clinical and Allied Health courses, patient oriented courses, study abroad, fitness, studio and performing arts, interinstitutional courses, courses related to doctoral research and dissertations, and courses with four or fewer students were removed. When course descriptions were not provided in the database (the majority of courses), syllabi were searched. Since many UNC departments do not yet provide online syllabi, the remaining course descriptions were found in course catalogs, on departmental and faculty websites, and on third party websites such as Course Hero.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each offering or section of a course was counted as an individual course
