A brief description of the program:
Commuter Alternatives Program vanpoolers receive $20 per month toward vanpool costs and free parking in a proximate lot. At UNC, the Department of Public Safety allocates all parking permits to individual departments. Departments distribute the allotment using a formula based on seniority. Each Commuter Alternatives Program carpooler splits the cost of a department parking permit and pays with pre-tax dollars. Carpools of four or more receive a proximate permit from a special allotment from the Department of Public Safety.
