A brief description of the program:
Since 2002, the University has partnered with the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro to fund fare-free public transit for all members of the community. UNC contributes more than $6 million annually to operate Chapel Hill Transit's fixed route and demand-responsive service within the municipal boundaries of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Chapel Hill Transit operates twenty-five weekday routes, eight weekend routes, and three late-night routes around UNC's campus and UNC hospitals.
Student and employee participants in the Commuter Alternatives Program (CAP) may choose to receive an annual "GoPass," conferring unlimited free rides on the Triangle's regional transit system, as well as on the Durham Area Transit buses. Alternatively, CAP participants may also choose a free annual pass on the PX route, connecting UNC to the town of Pittsboro.
