A brief description of the LCCA policy and/or practices:

The University of New Haven completes a detailed Life Cycle Cost Analysis for all its energy projects. This includes an evaluation of the life of the project, the amortized cost of a product, including capital costs, installation fees, operating and maintenance costs, as well as disposal costs. The potential savings gained from system efficiencies are also explored. The University has determined that a reduction in energy use has a correlation to reduction in the environmental and economic burden of each project.

Early in 2018, the University utilized LCCA in the decision-making process for a new kitchen hood in Bartels Hall. This location serves as the both the community center and main dining hall for the campus. The kitchen is equipped with two main hoods, KEF-1 and KEF-2. An extensive LCCA analysis determined that updating the existing kitchen hood with the proposed humidity driven system would reduce energy consumption by 755 MMBTU, and generate a savings of $16,294.
