A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
As a first step, both the undergraduate and graduate University of New Haven course catalogs were reviewed to identify sustainability course offerings by the prefix "SUST".
Next, the keywords sustainability, energy, environment and climate were used to identify additional sustainability and sustainability content courses offered through all departments. To qualify as a Sustainability Course, each description was reviewed to determine if sustainability was the primary and explicit focus and/or contributed to the greater understanding or solving of a sustainability challenge. Sustainability Content courses had a clearly identified description of the role in the course.
Finally, the University of New Haven’s Director of Energy and Sustainability reviewed the resulting list for accuracy and completeness. She cross-checked any content questions with individual Department personnel.
