A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:

UNH utilizes a combination of strategies to gather data about student commuting:

Comprehensive standardized transportation surveys are generally completed every five years, sponsored by UNH Facilities in partnership with the Transportation Policy Committee and the Energy Task Force. These are augmented by thorough annual analyses conducted by the Transportation Policy Committee that review transit ridership, parking permit applications, and student housing data on/in close proximity to campus. The student commute mode profiles are used to complete our annual greenhouse gas emissions updates.

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:

Comprehensive standardized transportation surveys are completed every five years, sponsored by UNH Facilities in partnership with the Transportation Policy Committee and the Energy Task Force. They are completed professionally by the UNH Survey Center, which combines phone surveys to a random sample of the university commuting populations (faculty, staff and students) with a web-based component.

Survey data is augmented by thorough annual analyses conducted by the Transportation Policy Committee to review transit ridership, parking permit applications, and employee zip code data. The resulting employee commute mode profiles are used to complete our annual greenhouse gas emissions updates.
