A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
Sustainability Ambassadors program is a community of practice and a gateway for UNH employees for networking, collaboration, and idea and resource sharing focused on sustainabilty and community service. It is a collaboration between the UNH Sustainability Institute and the Office of Research, Economic Engagement and Outreach. Participants are trained in regular (i.e., monthly) sustainbaility lunch-and-learns, networking events, and engagement (i.e. community service) days. Ambassdors also commit to organizing at least one service opportunity for their peers annually, that is connected to one or more of the SDG's.
Training topics for AY24-25 focus on UNH's Basic Needs program to support access and affordablity to students, UNH's sustainability performance vis-a-vis STARS, pollinator protection efforts on campus and surrounding communities, the role of business in the climate crisis, and other sustainabilty topics
Sustainabilty Engagement days organized for, and by, participants range from service to support campus initiatives--such as Trash 2 Treasure, the Cats Cupboard food pantry, or Basic Needs programs--to community-focused efforts such as the beach clean-up organized by the Ambassador in UNH's Career and Professional Services in which participants removed plastic debris to protect marine life.
The commitment is roughly three hours per month. By participating in the training components Sustainability Ambassadors become eligible to earn a Sustainabilty badge (i.e. micro-credential) from UNH online. By organizing and promoting community service in support of solutions to SDG challenges, Ambassadors help educate their peers and build UNH's sustainabilty culture.
