A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

New student exposure to and engagement with sustainability begins before students are enrolled, as the Sustainability Institute staff work directly with UNH Admissions to ensure sustainability is integrated into campus tours. SI provides sustainability training via presentations, resources and materials to UNH tour guides (student staff) and Admission Counselors (professional staff). The presentations introduce  sustainability principles as represented in the SDGs, as well as UNH sustainability practices.

In addition, every student who applies to UNH receives a direct message invitng them to become a Changemaker Fellow. The Changemaker Fellowship is a program for first year students focused on promoting sustainability and social impact through hands-on opportunities both on and off-campus.

During orientation, UNH's Chief Sustainability Officer has joined the "Welcome" portion of the agenda, with "New Student Programs team and University Leadership."

Sustainability is also embedded throughout WildCat Days, a suite of programming offered the weekend before fall classes begin in which incoming freshman, transfer, commuter and graduate students participate to orient and prepare them for their UNH experience. The Trash2Treasure program is prominently featured. Not only does Trash2Treasure offer students a chance to get reused items at more affordable prices to outfit their new living spaces; it is also a showcase for UNH's sustaianblity values and leadership, at which staff and volunteers provide information and engagement about a wide range of sustainablity initiatives. T2T does dedicated sustainablity during the "MUBFest" component of WildCat Days. See https://www.unh.edu/mub/events/mubfest

Incoming students are also introduced to encouraged to participate as Sustainability Advocates program in pre- and post-move-in outreach disseminated through Residential Life and by the Sustainabiltiy Institute.

During the fall semester, there are a variety of events where undergraduate, graduate, and transfer students learn about sustainability at UNH, such as through the Resident Assistants training and resource fair, UNH tour guides training, University Day, Graduate Student Resource Fair, Parents' Weekend, the Career and Internship Fair, and Commuter and Transfer Students Resource Fair. SI holds a booth at these events informing students about sustainability initiatives at UNH both academically and in the community, opportunities to get involved, and what resources and events are available to them. Other offices that provide information and opportunities related to sustainability include University Transportation Services, Dining Services, the Office of Commuter Students, the Aulbani J. Beauregard Center for Equity, Freedom And Justice, the office of Community, Equity and Diversity, UNH Dining, and UNH Housing and Residential Life.
