Does the institution offer housing options to accomodate the special needs of transgender and transitioning students (either as a matter of policy or as standard practice)?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the program, policy, or practice:
Residential Life strives to offer housing options to accommodate the special needs of transgender and transitioning students by working closely with the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) and UNH Housing. All students are encouraged to use the "notes" section of their housing application to specify individual needs or concerns, select desirable themed dorms, and whether they would prefer a single room. Students can also directly contact Residential Life staff people if they prefer to talk with a “live” person. Particular effort is made to pair students requesting a LGBTQ-friendly roommate.
In addition, Residential Life is in the process of assessing campus bathrooms, and has begun to identify appropriate places for gender-neutral bathrooms. There are currently gender-neutral bathroom options on Common Purposes (a theme floor in SERC C), each floor of Devine Hall (a building in the Upper Quad), and several bathrooms in the Mini Dorms.
