A brief description of the technology employed:
Starting in Fall 2006, UNH Dining replaced a total of 17 traditional urinals with waterless ones, saving an estimated 765,000 gallons of water per year and $20,000 in annual water and sewer costs. Because the new urinals eliminate flushing valves, maintenance costs are also reduced.
UNH now mandates new construction or renovation in buildings to use low flow toilets, urinals, faucets, and showers. This also extends to dishwaters and cooling systems.
The recent renovations of DeMeritt Hall and James Hall also incorporated waterless urinals into the new bathrooms.
