A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
The University of New Brunswick Act sets out the structure and powers of the University's governing bodies. Its bicameral governance system includes the Fredericton and Saint John Senates, which have principal responsibility for academic matters, and the Board of Governors, which receives recommendations on academic matters from the Senates, and has responsibility for financial issues, property and facilities, and other matters necessary to the governance of the University.
The Board of Governors is comprised of 42 members including three students seven non-academic staff and six academic staff.

The Mayor's Working Community on Community/Post-Secondary Relations is made up of leadership from UNB, the City of Fredericton, and the other post-secondary institutions within the city. Its mandate is to increase communication between these entities for the purpose of generating greater opportunities for the community as a whole. This includes off-campus student housing, transportation, sustainability, and safety.
