Student Union Food - Increasing access to sustainable, healthy, affordable food on UNB Fredericton Campus, and educating students on the importance of localized, equitable food systems through educational opportunities and hands-on learning experiences surrounding sustainable food systems, through the creation of a campus garden and the facilitation of workshops.

The Campus Community Garden - The construction of the UNB Fredericton Community Garden was finished during the late summer of 2017. During the garden’s pilot growing year in 2018, all the garden plots were filled by renters who had the opportunity to practice their green thumb in one of the 50 4’x8’ plots. Located behind Neville Homestead, the garden is accessible to students, faculty, and staff. A paved area and raised garden beds also provides accessibility for the physically impaired.

The UNB Student Union offers a monthly $15.00 “Fresh Food Bags”. This program is community-based and supported by volunteers. They source locally as much as possible. This service is available to the entire Fredericton community and surrounding areas. It provides an affordable option for individuals, students, and families to have better access to healthy food.

UNB hosted a 100 Debates for the Environment event in October, 2019 during the Canadian Federal Election. This event brought candidates in the local Member of Parliament race to answer questions about environmental issues.

Green UNB and SU Food collaborated to put on the Personal Sustainability Conference. This one day event comprised peer-to-peer workshops and tutorials along with guest speakers and a Q&A with local sustainability leaders.
