Yes

A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

I. Alternative Breaks

Alternative break trips are student-led, university-sponsored trips for a week or a weekend. They’re a great way to experience a different community and explore social justice issues through service alongside communities. While you travel for a week or a weekend, you can plan to do service, learn about social issues, live simply, and get to know your fellow travelers and host community. Administrative or academic faculty will be present on trips to support the learning experience and maintain administrative aspects.

Recent week-long trips include:
1) Desert conservation and restoration with the Desert Wildlife National Refuge
2) Travel to North of Los Angeles, California to learn about food systems and ecology at organic farms and urban community gardens
3) Work with the Catalina Island Conservancy to remove invasive plants and clean beaches

II. University Studies Abroad Consortium

The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) is the Nevada System of Higher Education's study abroad program. USAC is headquartered at UNR, and UNLV is a founding member. When it comes to study abroad, USAC and UNLV are one in the same, and UNLV students can choose to study in any of USAC numerous locations around the world. While studying abroad through USAC for the summer, fall, spring, or academic year, students earn either UNLV credit or pre-approved international transfer credit.

Recent semester and year-long programs offering sustainability-focused education include:

1) Florianopolis, Brazil - Environmental Policy, Sustainable and Economic Development
2) Heredia, Costa Rica - Biodiversity, Conservation Biology
3) Bangalore, India - Population and Poverty, Social Entrepreneurship from an Environmental Perspective
4) Accra, Ghana - Service Learning, Social Service Delivery, and African Studies

The Office of International Programs at UNLV encourages students and faculty to explore the various and multidisciplinary programs at their disposal to diversify the academic experience.
