A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
The UNL Human Resources department hosts monthly New Employee Orientation sessions aimed at welcoming new employees to the University and sharing key employment information. Information shared is related to employee relations; the employee assistance program; benefits; diversity, equity, and inclusion; institutional equity and compliance; and most recently after a brief hiatus due to the pandemic, sustainability. In October 2022, the orientation session format changed from a presentation to a tabling session. Throughout the tabling session, new employees have the opportunity to interact with Office of Sustainability staff and other on-campus partners. Office of Sustainability staff provide an introduction to the Office of Sustainability, an overview of sustainability efforts on campus including information on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle right at UNL (i.e The All in the Hall Recycling Program), and other opportunities for new staff to get involved in sustainability (i.e. Join the Chancellor’s Commission on Environment, Sustainability, and Resilience; participate in the Sustainability on Wheels program; join the Bike Share or Carpool programs; etc.)
