Greeks Going Green

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Greeks Going Green is a recognized student organization and was founded in 2019 after being a program sponsored by Student Government since 2014. It was founded to focus on implementing sustainability initiatives in different Fraternity and Sorority chapters and providing peer to peer sustainability related education to fraternity and sorority members. Fraternity and Sorority chapters select a Green Representative to be trained and supported by the Greeks Go Green team in outreach, education, and behavioral change within their individual chapters. The Green Representatives teach positive sustainability habits to their fellow chapter members such as energy and water conservation, recycling, alternative modes of transportation, and more.

The target audience of the Greeks Go Green program is all members of fraternity and sorority chapters at UNL, which makes up about 20% of UNL's total undergraduate student community.

EcoLeaders Learning Community

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
The EcoLeaders Learning Community is a program focused on building community among students around the natural environment and environmental causes both on campus and within the larger Lincoln community. Students take courses in Environmental Studies and Campus Recreation and learn to transform their passion into responsible action related to environmental sustainability. EcoLeaders participants live and work together on a variety of sustainability projects in their own dorm and the community. The focus of this learning community is building community with the students around the natural environment and environmental causes found both on campus and the larger Lincoln community.

A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (2nd program):
This peer-to-peer education program is focused on the students living and learning together as part of the Learning Community, which is open to any first-year student who is interested in or passionate about environmental sustainability.
