The Omaha Area Higher Education Sustainability Alliance: The Omaha Area Higher Education Sustainability Alliance shares a commitment to the Omaha Metro as both citizens and stewards of community resources. As a coalition of like-minded representatives of our respective higher-education institutions who seek to strengthen our collective capacity to embody and employ sustainable practices, we are committed to working together on issues that benefit each of our institutions as well as the Omaha Metro community. Our alliance is a non-political, non-binding entity that seeks, exclusively, opportunities for shared understanding, exchange of best practices, utilizing our collective voice through civil discussion with local agencies, and generating productive, mutually-beneficial cooperation. Over the last five years, each of our institutions has enhanced its capacity for addressing sustainability issues on our respective campuses and in the delivery of our respective academic missions. Each participating member has set goals about energy conservation, building practices, waste-stream reduction and recycling, grounds and maintenance, and educational and research opportunities, among others.
NU System Sustainability Summit
The annual NU System Sustainability Summit will bring together University of Nebraska sustainability leaders and stakeholders to share with and listen to one another—in the hopes of prompting growth and understanding of our sustainable initiatives and visions. This annual gathering elevates effective, efficient, economic, equitable, and responsible use of our resources to meet our current needs—while considering the long-term implications of our choices on future generations.
