A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
The Student Service and Leadership Collaborative (The Collaborative) started in 2014. The Collaborative is a student-led service program that is intended to provide UNO students with opportunities to engage with community nonprofits and organizations through services projects that lead to positive social change. The Collaborative is organized into six community service areas: Economic Sufficiency, Educational Support, Environmental Stewardship, Health & Wellness, International Service, and Social Justice.
The Collaborative Service Manager is responsible for working with a specific non-profit organization within an identified service area. Service Managers work with one non-profit organization throughout the academic year. In 2018-19, 22 student employees were matched with unique non-profit partners in Omaha. Each Spring, reviews are conducted with the students, staff, and non-profit supervisors to evaluate the program and experience to determine ways to enhance the experience.
The Collaborative is a co-curricular program designed to give students an opportunity to gain transferable job skills. While UNO students are improving their leadership, intercultural, social, and emotional competencies, they are simultaneously affecting positive social change in the Omaha Metro Area.

A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability (2nd partnership):
This UNO/OPS program which falls within the Multiple Pathways division of OPS is an option for high ability learners in need of an alternative setting. The program is a joint effort between OPS, UNO, and the Sherwood Foundation.
Students in the program have the ability and talents to be successful but have become disengaged in the traditional setting. Issues such as academic pace, social disconnects, family concerns or needs for a more flexible schedule may have caused the student to need an alternative learning environment.
The aim of the Middle College program is to re-engage the student through the power of the college campus. The program offers students flexibility, individualized learning plans, connections to UNO, and the opportunity to take college-level courses. Teaching in the Middle College program follows the Gradual Release Model for Instruction, which is the flexible delivery of modeling, guiding, sharing and independent forms of instruction.

Conservation Nebraska is housed in UNO's Community Engagement Center as a community partner as a 501c(3) organization. Conservation Nebraska mission is to create community partnerships between sustainability minded groups across the State of Nebraska.
Conservation Nebraska has partnered with UNO's Office of Sustainability to educate not only students, staff, and faculty, but the greater Nebraska area on sustainable food habits, regenerative eating, and environmental policy and climate justice. These educational opportunities took place via webinars during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. While webinars were short term events, Conservation Nebraska and UNO's Office of Sustainability have continued partnership by managing the UNO Community Garden together.
